The Basic Level is designed to introduce the novice or relatively inexperienced canoeist to paddling.  The Emphasis is on mastering the fundamentals of canoeing along with a strong grounding on water safety and safe canoeing practices.

 

Prerequisites

There are no canoeing prerequisites for the Basic Level although participants are encouraged to follow the progression in order to experience success.

Minimum Course Length

 

Safe canoeing program (upon which private and family lessons are based) – 4 hours

Basic 1 or 2 or 3 (each course done individually) – 5 hours

Basic Tandem (1,2 and 3 combined into one course) – 12 hours

Basic 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 – 9 hours

Basic Solo (4) – 12 hours

Basic (1, 2, 3 and 4 combined into one course) – 24 hours

 

Course content will cover Safety, Theory and Skills.  The amount of content covered, and the level of performance outcomes, will be based on the level of course taken.
